How to Fix the Discord Stuck on Connecting Error?

1. Restart Everything

Restarting your computer, router, and modem can help to fix the issue of stuck-on connecting errors. If the Discord is there on any particular app, you will have to close the app first. Restart everything after a couple of minutes and open the application. It is a simple process and the trick works most of the time. You can restart your modem and router in the following way.

Unplug the router and wait for at least 30 seconds. Plug in the modem and wait for a minute. Similarly, plug in the router and wait for 2 minutes. By restarting your system, you can re-launch the app by pressing Ctrl + R.

2. Disable antivirus

Many antivirus programs can lead to Discord interruption. If you happen to use one of these, there will be a Discord update failed error. When you disable the antivirus software temporarily or uninstall it, you will be able to fix the problem. Another way will be to add the entire folder where the Discord is installed. For Firewall, you will have to follow the below steps.

In the search box, you need to type Firewall. You will now land on the firewall page and you need to choose Firewall & network protection. Choose “Allow an app through Firewall” which is highlighted in the second half of the page. Once you click it, you will have to click Change settings. You will have a scroll-down list where you need to tick a mark on the Discord and select Ok. If in case the Discord is not in the list, you can choose “Allow another app” and hit Add.

3. Disable proxies

It is important to turn off proxies when there is Discord to connect. Proxies can block Discord and it can cause the problem. You can do it in the following way.

For Windows, you will have to go to the Start menu.

Alternatively, you can press the Windows button and R for the Run box. You will have to type “inetcpl.cpl” and press Ok.

Select Internet Options and go to the main menu Choose the Connections tab and go to LAN settings.

In there, click on the option of “Automatically detect settings“.

You must Uncheck the option “Use a Proxy Server…” and hit Ok.

Re-launch the Discord and see if the problem still exists. If you happen to use a Mac system, you can perform these steps.

Click the Apple logo and choose System Preferences. You will now have to select Network.

In the left pane, you will find many options wherein you will have to choose the Advanced button. In the proxies tab, you need to uncheck all the protocols. Hit “Select a protocol to configure” and tap Keep in mind that there should be no proxies enabled. To confirm you can launch the Discord.

4. Check VPN

VPN that comes with UDP (User Datagram Protocol) can make the Discord function. There are many VPNs like NordVPN and Express VPN that come with the UDP function. For this, you must enable UDP with the VPN so that the VPN works with Discord. If you set up a VPN on your system then it may help to resolve the problem. Mac users you can do it by

Choosing “Prefer UDP over TCP. Keep in mind that this will be by default. You need to confirm if this is turned on. You will have to go to Preferences and select “Connection: Prefer UDP over TCP (Transmission Control Protocol).

For Windows users, you can install ExpressVPN and open the app.

Hit the hamburger menu button and go to Options. From there you will have to select Protocol and choose UDP.

For NordVPN, you will have to download and install NordVPN on the system.

Run the system and sign in to your account. If you click the Connect Switch option, you will be automatically redirected to the VPN server. Now you need to go to Settings followed by Advanced and Protocol. Finally, you will have to select UDP.

5. Disconnect from office or school Network

If you are on a school or work network, the Discord can be blocked. This can happen when the network administrator prevents a user from accessing Discord on the network. It will be better to disconnect from the network. You can opt for your mobile data or go for content or connection blocking by using VPN with UDP options. It is easy and happens very fast.

6. Add exception for Discord in Malwarebytes

Malwarebytes will screw over the Discord. Make sure that you make it an exception if you are having Malwarebytes. For this, you can run a malware test by downloading the Malwarebytes application. It comes for free and you will only have to install the application and run a scan. Wait for the scan to finish and it will display the complete results. This will help to solve Discord connection problems. You can do it in the following way.

Open the Malwarebytes application. Select Settings and then go to the Exclusions tab. You need to hit the option of Add an exclusion. Click on “Exclude a website: and proceed with Next. When you click on “Exclude a domain”, you need to enter the URL http://cdn.Discordapp.com Hit OK to save your settings.

7. Change server region

In many cases, you will find that Discord will be stuck when you connect to a voice channel. An ideal solution for this will be changing the server region. To change the region of a server, you need to be an Admin. Additionally, you can even synchronize the time and date with your region. This method helps to resolve voice channels as well as connection issues.

Press the Windows + L key together. You will land in the Settings app from where you will have to choose Time and Language. Now you need to choose the Region and Language tab and click on the country or region from the drop-down list. Select the country and save your settings. You need to go to Server Settings and select the Server Region. Go to the option of choosing another server region. Save your changes and try to connect to the server again.

8. Use flushDNs Command

The Domain Name System or flushDNS can be very helpful for fixing server connection issues. By releasing and renewing IP as well as flushing DNS, you will be able to update the network information. It can be done in the following way. You need to go to the search box and type “cmd”. Right-click on the Command Prompt. Keep in mind that you will have to run as an administrator. In the Command Prompt, you will have to type the commands

ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew ipconfig/flushdns

After entering, you will have to press Enter.

Do note that you need to wait for 5 seconds so that the system can respond and then hit the second command. You can now close the Command Prompt and connect to the Discord again.

9. Uninstall conflicting apps

If there is any conflicting software, you will not be able to connect to Discord. Many apps including Twitch have the ability to interfere with Discord functioning. These types of apps are called conflicting apps and you need to close or remove them before using Discord. You can confirm it in the following way.

For Windows, you need to press Ctrl + Shift + Esc together. This will open Task Manager where you will see all the apps currently active. You will also see background processes currently working. You need to select the conflicting apps and processes and click on the End Task button. Open Start menu and type “msconfig“. You will see System Configuration and click to open it.

Go to the Services At the bottom, you will find “Hide all Microsoft services” where you will have to check and then click “Disable all“. In the next process, click on Open Task Manager by going to the Startup Here you need to choose the Startup tab and select each item. Click Disable on all the items. You need to go back to system configuration and hit Ok.

Before you start using Discord, you will have to restart your system.
